Pierce County Bengals @ Tri-City Rage
Pierce County Bengals (2-0)
Finally they may have found a pocket QB in Kyle Stennes who was 9/18 with 65 yards passing 1 TD passing & 1 TD rushing, but he also threw an INT. RB Baines added a rushing TD with 44 yards and WR Davis had 11 yards and a TD. Defensively, DB Baines had an INT and DL Riddley led the team with 4 tackles and 4 TFL. They will need a more complete game to win against a physical and young Rage team in their HOUSE! Giving up an Early lead to the Hurricanes shows a lack of dominance and they need a win to stay atop the division at 3-0, but traveling and playing a equally physical team may be too much to overcome!
Tri-City Rage (1-2)
The Rage have lost the the 2 best teams in the NW! While that doesn’t help the fact they are 1-2, it does mean their record and scores do not equate to the quality of a team they may be. QB Brown, RBs Summers and Lozano make for a dangerous running game and WRs Roosendaal and Mitchell aren’t too shabby in the passing game as well! Defensively, they need to find the formula that held the Wolfpack to 15 points after giving up 109 points in their two losses. Youth and inexperience caught up with them last week, but this wek they should have more depth and speed than their opponent. Can they rebound from a whooping from the Kings and look to take control of the #2 seed in Division II?
Bengals travel well, but a lack of explosive offensive plays make it hard to keep up with Rage. Bengals keep it close going into the second half. QB brown and RB Lozano get rolling in 2nd half and Rage pull away at home!
Rage win a competitive game 35-13!
May 20th Weekend Review
Eagles 14-13 over Hawks
Eagles are the second best team in the WSFL, but can they close the gap on the Lions and play them well in the coming weeks? Can the Hawks rebound and be competitive against Lions as well. They could win home field if the beat Eagles buy more than 1 score in rematch!
Lions 14-0 over Raptors (called at half)
Lions got PLAYED!!! They were hosted in a mud pit with make believe refs. They put up 2 scores before the game and attitudes got out of hand. Not sure how many players will stay and not bolster WWFA teams before roster locks hit! Raptors are SAD. Mismatch helmets and jerseys, no real field nor fan base. Edmunds is doing himself more harm than good. Without money and talent, semi pro looks like a Raptors team, hope they can get one of the two soon!
Pitbulls 42-7 over Idaho Hawks
Good win for Pitbulls over a bunch of unknowns. Needed a good win and confidence builder going into match-up with Renegades for 2nd place in the PFL.
Mayhem 44-0 over Outlaws
WOW!!!! QB Espich you are the weakest LINK!!! J/k You got some playing time and that’s what matters! DB Jaeron Ayala had 3 INTs and a TD. He now has 5 in 2 games and doesn’t face a top 5 team…. Welcome to AYALA ISLAND FOLKS!!! Outlaws look to go win-less in 2017 if they cannot find any linemen! Mayhem are in lead for division with match up against win-less Vipers after the bye week!
Bengals 20-14 over Hurricanes
Hurricanes need some help! WR/DB Stout had 2 TDs , but needs to do MORE if they want to win! They also may be looking at a win-less campaign in 2017 without some athletes up front! Bengals just keep winning, but will finally play a team with a win in the Rage after the bye. need a win against the rage to keep momentum and prove they are more than just the BEST of the WORST!
Kings 54-10 over Rage
Rage are young and small, but they didn’t give up and they SCORED (which means some clippers should be warming up!) on a stingy defense. Moral victories are not enough and with MLB Cardenas for an undetermined amount of time, they need to take this loss in stride, find some humility and be ready to POUND the Bengals. No Waller, no Kruse, NO PROBLEM!!!! Special teams and defense still are dominant as ever. Huge special teams play and defensive dominance proved the difference in this game. QB Reilly played well enough to win, but is he the long term answer without Kruse?
Raven 43-22 over Storm
The Storm got the wake up call I expected. Yes, they beat the Bearcats, but i knew that could happen. When faced with an athletic opponent, they got WORKED!!! Good news is they play hurricanes next week, but the bad news is Kings, Rage and Bengals are still on the schedule! Ravens are getting it going and on a 3 game winning streak. they will need all the momentum and mojo they can get matching up with the Kings after the bye!
Wolfpack 14-3 over Rams
Rams couldn’t punch the ball in when in the redzone. Not sure the exact number, but they easily had 15 penalties for over 100 yards, which cost them yardage on a 52 yard FG attempt that hit the cross bar and plenty of offsides that kept the Wolfpack in manageable down and distances. They have some coming together to do, but may upset some teams in future. Wolfpack squeaked one out on the road. A win is a win, but lack of offensive production may be a worry long term!
Cobras 31-14 over Vipers
Vipers are looking like they may be trash. In what was basically a home game, they were dominated and frustrated by a inconsistent Cobras team. Can they find a way to score more than 2 TDs and be consistent against the Mayhem after the bye? Cobras won a must WIN game and look to play one of the toughest teams in the NW while everyone else has a bye! Not sure HC Pierre understands the physical punishment Raiders will bring the week before playing a huge game against a physical Bearcats team on road. Hoping them a good and competitive against Raiders!
Grizzlies 32-25 over Nighthawks
NIGHTHAWKS NEED TO MATURE AT ALL LEVELS!!! Their is no excuse for blowing a 17 point lead in the 4th quarter. Substitutions at QB, passing play calls by OC and lack of stops after turnovers on defense couple with poor calls and bickering among teammates equated to the biggest meltdown of 2017 so far. QB Wiley plays like Dilfer by managing the game and QB Phillips has playmaking ability but makes bad decisions hence the 3 TOs in 4th quarter. A decision needs to be made for the Nighthawks to get over the hump moving forward. Grizzlies won while missing 18 guys, but they were DOWN 17! Raiders are up on June 3rd and they wont blow a 17 point lead. Raines and Hansen get a week to heal up and they will be hosting Raiders so look for them to bolster their roster these coming 2 weeks!

May 14th ReviewWashington State Football League (website)
Lions over Hawks 52-0
This game was a REAL disappointment. While I do not mean to insult, but HOW DO YOU CALL A GAME AT HALFTIME???? I understand it is hard, but you got to finish, Now to the Lions, there is some gamesmanship here and some understanding you may have to endure. If you want to play in this league and play for 4 quarters, TAKE THE GAS OFF THE PEDAL!!! Many will disagree, but you are not facing competition. play even YOUR best players on one side of the ball, don’t blitz and use a heavy rotation. I know football is being played by men etc, but this league isn’t ready for REAL football, so you can adjust and have more playing time and fun or continue to BLOWOUT everyone. NOT KNOCKING you for winning, just giving perspective.
Eagles over Raptors 42-6
Raptors NEED HELP! I will just leave it at that! Eagles proved they may be the 2nd best team in the league, Match-up this week with Hawks will determine if there is any controversy and competitiveness in this league. Hopefully they can find a way to fix their offense after this explosion and show a better performance in game 2 with Lions!
Pacific Football League (website)
Raiders over Pitbulls 12-6
Pitbulls had a few ruffled feathers and I see why. The game was more competitive than I ever would have thought and i was almost disrespectful in the amount of points I predicted would be scored on them, but they still LOST… No offensive points will KILL you every time! Raiders were held in check and only 10 offensive points with a safety on defense. Familiarity and rivalry would be a good reason while they were stifled on offense, but I believe father time may be catching up with QB Schneider. Defensive battles like this forge steel out of iron. With a bye week before play the Cobras on June 3rd, they got the test the needed to rest up and refocus!
Western Washington Football League (website)
Vikings over Outlaws 25-10
Outlaws need some help, but not sure where they are going to get it from. Luckily for them, the WHOLE division didn’t win a game so they are even with the rest for the lead. Vikings got the W expected they would. A bye week gives them a chance to perfect their craft and do some recruiting. We all know feelings were hurt and playing time will be the tell tale sign on if guys will leave before the waiver wire. Can the Vikings lure a few more athletes over to complete their roster?
Bengals over Vipers 20-6
Vipers are in the win-less Division III as well, so a big match-up with Cobras will be more important than the loss this weekend. Bengals play physical football and QB Bryant is a great fit with their guys! Need to keep the wins rolling against a undermanned and undersized Hurricanes next week.
Ravens over Rams 34-23
Rams played a hell of a game. Were up at one point 21-20 in the secon half. Proud of Coach White and the grit they displayed this game. Big game next week hosting the Wolfpack. Could be the sign of big things to come! Ravens had us all scared for a minute and almost laid an egg at home in their opener. A W is a W and the Rams are always a quality opponent. Big match-up next week with Storm to stay atop Division II!
Rage over Wolfpack 30-15
The Wolfpack found a little humility this weekend. Starting out down 23-0 in any game is not a good formula, but they need to stop the finger pointing earlier before it gets to 23. Lack of size was an issue, so will the increase their stamina and speed to make up for it? The Rage, ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE!! Big match up with Kings this weekend will tell us how REAL they are!
Storm over Bearcats 28-20
Bearcats were missing some key players, but still played a competitive game. They need to figure out their commitment issues during their bye week and be ready for a huge divisional game against the Cobras in week 3. The Storm are grinning and smirking at me as they read this. While they were picked to lose, they were also picked as most likely to upset. They will get a complete test this week hosting the Ravens. Probably be the underdog again, but they may be in that roll ALL season!
Nighthawks over Mayhem 14-0
Mayhem are HORRIBLE on offense. 6 TOs and NO POINTS!!! CB Ayaela needs some speed work after getting HAWKED down, but had 2 INTs and played a heck of a game…. hahahaha but realistically they need to be able to score if they want to win games. Nighthawks won when they were supposed to. They defended their house and pitched a shutout, but 4 INTs from QB Wiley has warnings signs of long term issues. Similar to Storm, they have something to prove every week and Grizzlies in probably the game of the week will be a real test of their grit!
Grizzlies over Cobras 39-6
Cobras played similar to what I expected. 7 TOs on offense and 2 for TDs. A safety early in the first half and a ton of missed opportunities put them behind the eight ball early. A late score gives them hope on offense, but their whole division lost so they are still TIED for the lead within the division. Grizzlies are looking to be the GIANT among the mid level teams. While a #2 ranking is questioned, they have the easiest schedule and do not play another team who won in week 1 after Nighthawks. Their schedule may give them a legitimate chance at an undefeated regular season they win next week and build the momentum and confidence to play with anyone!
Spokane Wolfpack @ Tri-City RageSpokane Wolfpack
They have been quiet and humble after a disappointing 2016. While they were competitive, they didn’t get the amount of winds they are used to and really looked different after losing some players to the rival Rams. The return of DB/WR/RB Martea Johnson and the already solid core of LB Will Brigman, WR Eric Newmann, WR Marcus Dusham & OL Max Thor Noll gives them a quite unique set of talent and these guys can compete with the best in the league. They have some speed, size and leadership, but I do see they lack NUMBERS! If this was a game during the summer heat, they would be a huge disadvantage, but it will be in the 70s at most and these guys have ben chomping at the bits to get this season going! Can DB Johnson shut down HALF THE FIELD? Can WRs Ducham and Newmann be the combo they were in 2016?
Tri-City Rage (0-1)
A tough loss on the road to the Raiders may be exactly what this team needed. While missing their starting QB & RB, they still opened up the game with a 14-6 lead before giving up 49 unanswered POINTS!!! Will the REAL RAGE DEFENSE PLEASE STAND UP??? That kind of performance is unacceptable even against the mighty Raiders if you plan on being a contender! QB Layton Brown and RB Myke Summers look to spark an offense that only put up 14 points in their first game. Heard big things about #3 Tyler Merkel WR/DB and #10 WR Brandon Mitchell in their loss against the Raiders and they need to show up this week with a HUGE match-up with Johnson. MLB Jesse Cardenas must lead the way this week against a hungry and rested Wolfpack offense. Can the stop the spread and air it out style of the Wolfpack? Can their offense get rolling with their starters returning?
Wolfpack come out fierce and fast! Rage come out running the ball and hitting hard. Really this match-up could go either way, but home field advantage and possibly questionable calls will give the Rage just enough of an edge to be the favorite. Believe me when I say, “The Wolfpack MAY WIN THIS GAME!!!” but I have to give the slight edge to the home team with their home crew!!! haahhahaha
Big stops late and home field play a big roll in the Rage squeeking out the win 24-21 at home!
Teams will be review in a preseason pick of order to finish….
#6 Northwest Hurricanes (0-1)
They have some of the best athletes in the league, but NO DEPTH or SIZE!!! DB/WR Croom, DB/RB Ivory, WR/DB Stout, DL Scott and OL Noel can all ball, but not for 120+ plays a game!!! There is nothing to talk about especially playing the Kings, Ravens, Bengals, Rage and Storm until you get some LINEMAN! Non-divisional games versus Cobras and Vipers may be their only hope for a win this season in such a strong division.
#5 Kitsap County Storm (1-0)
I truly had them at #4 till I saw the QB addition for the Bengals. While they won convincingly against the Vikings, they WERE SUPPOSED TO! Not sure they have the overall team speed to compete with come of the other teams in the top of their division, While they could go as high as #3 in the division, I don’t see enough weapons on offense for them to scare the defense of the Ravens, Bengals, Rage or Kings. QB Pederson is a good pocket quarterback, but he isn’t as young as he used to be and was never a running threat so pressure will get to him. Can coaches Bellamy, Rambo and Crumbley upset their old team the Kings and send the semi pro world into shock?
#4 Pierce County Bengals
Quietly, they could be a sleeper team. The addition of QB Gerald Bryant from the Outlaws paired with RB Baines and WR Baines could give them an athletic and FAST offense, but with the Ravens, Kings and Rage within the division they may face even faster defenses. Game this week versus Viper’s on the road will validate this ranking or call my ish.. Big win in week one would show they will be competitive and 4-4 is a realistic goal for this team if not 5-3!
#3 Tri-cities Rage (0-1)
Their 55-14 blowout sounded bad till i found out starting QB Layton Brown, RB Myke Summers and LB Izzy Mercado were not in attendance. While QB Jordan Inge made a commendable fill in, you have to be at your best and full strength when you play the Raiders. They will have a unique advantage for home games and Div I opponents non-division games means they should get to 5-3, but week 1 match-up with Wolfpack will set tone for season! Need win going into HUGE week 2 match-up with Kings! They could be control of Division II with wins in their 1st 2 games!
#2 Puyallup Kings
They have said it all…..
#1 Renton Ravens (1-1)
While i know they lost to the Grizzlies in their preseason game, I also know the 8-10 guys who showed up to practice that following week! Many people will gaff and scoff and them being picked to win in the same division as the returning champs, but family and experience can sometimes overcome talent and youth! In this case, the Ravens have the right atmosphere and a tone of veteran talent coming over that has been together fro YEARS! Usually you say 6 guys coming over would need to mesh, but many of these guys were part of the 2009 National Champion Ravens so this is nothing new to them. Week 3 at Kings followed by Raiders will show us if the Ravens are for real or not!
Division II is hands down the toughest division. The Bengals and Rage would probably dominate Division III and the top 3 teams may be the best in the league! Can the Kings stay humble and make it through the season? Can the Rage be the special team I anticipate after getting some key Mavs? Can the Ravens show their 2009 form? I think the latter is the most likely to come true.. Honestly, the team who wins the division probably DOESN’T win the championship!
Vikings(0-1) 7 Storm(2-0) 31
Vikings got manhandled on the road. The losses of Hansen and Raines are more important than they believed. Bad play in all 3 phases of the game. The scary part about this game is Storm are mid of the pack team…. Vikings may go WINLESS in 2017!!!!
Storm are undefeated in the preseason and deservedly so, but they played a JV team and the bottom team in the WWFA. They SHOULD have won these 2 games if they plan on being contenders! Regular season out of division on May 13th will be the deciding factor on if the Storm are for real or not!
Hurricanes(0-1) 0 Grizzlies(2-0) 28
Hurricanes NEED LINEMAN!!! Not just one one side or the other, but BOTH!!! While they were shutout, they ONLY lost by 28 and they were on the road. Athletes and speed are great, but you have to have the HOGS up front to be successful. Not sure they will be consistently competitive without an influx of big guys!
Grizzlies are starting to show they may be for real! I would have expected a LARGER point spread though if they plan to be dominant and the Hurricanes we so small up front, but a SHUTOUT and a WIN are always POSITIVES no matter whom you are playing! RB Jeff Hansen has decided to come over from rams and may be the RB needed to balance their offense and make them a TRUE contender!
Bearcats(1-1) 14 Nighthawks (1-1) 21
Bearcats played a sloppy game in the monsoon that was in Aberdeen on Saturday. An interception with less than 2 minutes left stop them from going to overtime or possibly ahead. The fact they kept it close and were in a position to win could be considered a win in itself. looking for big things out of them!
Nighthawks got a quality win on the road, but can they stay consistent and win on a weekly basis? Only winning by 7 means either the Bearcats are good or they played down to their level. Nighthawks may truly be special, but only time will tell! Can they get a couple more vets to round out the roster and give them the depth up front to compete for a championship?
Rage(0-1) 14 Raiders(3-0) 55
The Rage had an early 14-6 lead in the second quarter and then the flood gates opened. QB Jordan Inge former Buzzard came to the Rage’s rescue and filled in for QB Layton Brown. While they may have lost the game, they were competitive in the first half, missing guys on both sides of the ball and were in their first game since Mavs/Rage merger. I see big things from these guys long term!
Raiders keep rolling and look to their PFL season match up home and away versus the Pitbulls. Will the Renegades play this season and give them 2 more league games is the biggest question. The PFL may be DEAD, but the Raiders MAY be the best team in the NW. Can they field enough games to stay hungry and consistent throughout the season? Will lack of competition beget boredom and frustration? The Raiders only competition will be themselves until they reach playoffs or some of the top WWFA teams!
Tri-City Rage @ Portland RaiderTri-City Rage (roster)
The Tri-City Rage have benefited from the folding of the old Yakima Mavericks. FB/MLB Jesse Cardenas, OL Juan Cuellar and OL Michael Haggerty have came over and bolster what was already a talented and competitive team. QB Layton Brown looks to make a return with vengeance after having over 500 rushing yards last year and almost 100 through the air. RB Myke Summers will benefit from the B play of Cardenas and the addition of 2 more veteran lineman. LB/DE Izzy Mercado, LB Daniel Gannon & S Quintin Adams will be better with Cardenas, but can they handle the offensive onslaught and aerial attack from the Portland Raiders. Offensively they were a ground and pound team, but they will have to have some success through the air in order to soften up a stingy Raiders defense.
Portland Raider (2-0) (roster)
The Raiders beat a thin and DIFFERENT Wenatchee team last week. up 28-3 at halftime they pitched a shutout in the second half and scored 21 more points to pull away! This week they will play against REAL MLB in Cardenas and a team that has some identity and isn’t in a rebuilding stage. Schneider threw 6 TDs with no interception and moved the ball all over the field. RB Tone Harris found the end zone and I am sure had a 100 yard day. Defense held them to 3 points, but some may say the Rams could move the ball, just had 2 4 and outs in the red zone. LBs Gates, Hughes, Bradley and Vercher better be ready for the run game and good old physical war when the Rage have the ball. WR Bodeman, Dickson, Smith, Polk and the rest should have opportunities, but can they take advantage of them. Offensive tempo on BOTH sides of the ball will be the key to who wins this game.
Rage travel well, but have some kink to still work out. Raiders show up at home with full squad looking to make a statement. in the end, the Raiders have too much talent on offense for the Rage to keep up!
Raiders win in what looks like a blowout, but really pulling away in second half! Raiders 42-12!!!!
